About the Program
We created YUP, the Youth Ultimate Program, in the summer of 2011 because we love ultimate and want to help spread the game to the next generation. Before we started this program, there were no summer Ultimate programs for kids in Minnesota. The goal of YUP is to give children the opportunity to try one of the most fun, fastest growing sports in the world!
What is Ultimate?
Ultimate (sometimes referred to as Ultimate Frisbee) is a non-contact team sport, in which a 7-person team attempts to move a 175g flying disc into their opponents' end-zone, similar to football. However, when in possession of the disc, a player can pivot and pass but may not take any steps. Ultimate is played in more than 42 countries by hundreds of thousands of men, women, girls and boys.
Spirit of the Game!
One aspect of Ultimate that sets it apart from other sports is the emphasis on Spirit of the Game. Spirit of the Game is a spirit of sportsmanship and respect that places the responsibility for fair play on the player. Since Ultimate is self-officiated, players are responsible for calling fouls and resolving disagreements on the field in a respectful and spirited manner.
Why Play Ultimate?
Ultimate is a fun team sport, and a great way to get out-door exercise. It improves hand-eye coordination and athleticism, and above all, the emphasis on Spirit of the Game encourages honesty, fair play, and resolving conflicts in a respectful and productive way.
